Why are some players refuse to play IPL 2024?

IPL 2024 News: The upcoming IPL 2024 is just around the corner with teams already in full swing at their training camps. With the T20 World Cup 2024 following closely after the IPL, this season holds special significance for players worldwide, as it offers them a crucial opportunity to prepare before the global tournament.

However, amidst the anticipation, some players won’t be partaking in the IPL due to either injury or personal reasons, while others might miss matches throughout the season. Consequently, six out of the ten IPL teams have already faced setbacks. These teams include Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals. Let’s know which players of these six teams will not be able to participate in the IPL 2024 this time.

Gujarat Titans:

Mohammed Shami, India’s prominent fast bowler, will be absent from IPL 2024 due to an ankle injury sustained during this year’s ODI Cup in India. Following surgery in London, Shami’s participation has been ruled out, with Gujarat Titans yet to name a replacement.

Matthew Wade, the renowned Australian wicketkeeper-batsman and T20 cricket star, will also miss Gujarat Titans’ opening IPL 2024 match. Opting to play in the Sheffield Shield final for Tasmania from March 21 to 25, Wade is expected to miss the Titans’ initial fixture on March 25 and possibly the match on March 27.

Lucknow Super Giants:

Mark Wood, the English fast bowler, has been prevented from participating in the IPL by the ECB to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup and England’s upcoming summer. In his absence, West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has joined the Lucknow Super Giants squad.

Rajasthan Royals:

Prasidh Krishna, the promising Indian bowler, will sit out his second consecutive IPL season due to recuperation from surgery following an injury during the Ranji Trophy. Rajasthan Royals have not yet disclosed his replacement.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Jason Roy, the English opener, has opted out of IPL 2024 for personal reasons. Phil Salt, currently ranked second in the ICC T20I rankings, will replace him in the KKR team.

Gus Atkinson, the English fast bowler, withdrew from his debut IPL season due to ECB’s workload management. Consequently, Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been added to the squad as a replacement.

Chennai Super Kings:

Devon Conway, the New Zealand batsman, will miss the season for CSK due to a thumb injury sustained during the T20 series against Australia. CSK is yet to announce his replacement.

Delhi Capitals:

Harry Brook, the English batsman, has withdrawn from IPL 2024 following the passing of his grandmother in February. The Capitals are yet to announce his replacement.
